In June, the job market in French startups confirmed the strong rebound seen last month, with over 6,000 new positions created*. This month alone accounts for over 30% of the 19,000 net jobs created since the start of the year.

After the downturn seen in April (almost 3,600 jobs lost), it’s clear that hiring in the French Tech sector is picking up again. Consolidating the statistics for May and June, more than 14,000 jobs have been created by start-ups in the last two months. That’s 75% of the total since the start of the year.

A total of 2,591 startups recruited over 8,000 new staff in June(3.4 positions per job-creating startup). At the same time, 1,488 startups shed over 2,800 jobs, or just under two positions per startup. A largely favorable balance.

As has been the case for many months now, two regions stand out in particular: Île-de-France (+3700 jobs) and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (around +500 jobs). These two regional powerhouses accounted for 70% of all jobs generated in France in June. 10 points higher than the current average for 2023.

Greentech startups continue to top the sector rankings. In June, they created over 500 jobs. Since the start of the year, this sector has generated more than 3,300 jobs, or 17% of recruitment within French Tech. In other words, to date, one in six new jobs has been created by a start-up operating in Greentech.

In addition, the various support schemes for Deeptech seem to be getting results, as the sector is steadily moving up the rankings. Deeptech has moved up 3 places since the end of 2022. Finally, it should be noted that the e-commerce sector has lost its place in the top 10 for the first time, to the benefit of Constructiontech.

The French Tech sector has thus confirmed its resilience, particularly in the first half of the year. What about the second half? See you in early August for the first indications from our July barometer, although the summer break is not the best time for analysis.
