Nearly 13,500 net jobs created in the sample* over the first 6 months of the year

Despite unfavorable economic circumstances, the French Tech job market has confirmed its resilience for many months now. Indeed, the sector has created almost 13,500 jobs since the start of the year, representing growth of +4%.

While this trend is certainly less significant than that observed in the first half of 2023 (+7.2%), it should be noted that :

  • every month has created jobs;
  • the dynamic is more firmly rooted and regular than in H1 2023, when very strong monthly fluctuations were observed ;
  • the monthly average is around 2,250 net creations;
  • an acceleration was observed in April 2024, although we have noticed a slight slowdown since May and June.

It is also interesting to note that since the beginning of the year, recruitment has risen by almost 17%, while at the same time redundancies have fallen by around 15%. However, we must remain cautious, as we note a 10% increase in redundancies in June compared with the previous month.

Paris Region startups generated 54% of all jobs created in 2024

As we all know, the Paris Region is the driving force behind job creation in French startups at national level. In the first six months of the year, startups in the Paris Region created almost 7,300 jobs. However, this concentration has been declining for some time. By way of comparison, the Paris region created 58% of the national total in 2023 and 66% in 2022. As has been the case for the past two years, Auvergne-Rhône Alpes ranks second among the regions. With over 1,500 jobs created in the first six months, the region accounts for 11% of startup job creation in France. That’s three points more than over the whole of 2023 and 2022.

More than two out of five jobs in French Tech come from a GreenTech or industrial startup

If there are two employer sectors that shine within French Tech, it’s “GreenTech” and “Manufacturing”. Over the first six months, GreenTech start-ups created almost 2,800 jobs, or 21% of the national total. As for those serving industry, they created nearly 2,700 jobs, or 20% of the national total. TransportTech” closes the podium, having generated over 1,600 jobs (12% of the total). A new feature of our barometer: having trained its artificial intelligence algorithms, the Motherbase solution now has the capacity to analyze the dynamics of a new category, “EnergyTech” startups. An important new category, since this segment ranks 4th in the Top Sectors 2024 ranking, with almost 1,300 jobs created since the start of the year.
