In this episode, journalist Agathe PECASTAING interviews Anne-Dauphine CAMBOURNAC, Delegate for Tax and Financial Affairs at Syntec Numérique, and Maître Alain RECOULES, Partner at Arsene Taxand, on the Research Tax Credit.

As the government’s biggest expense, costing almost 6 billion euros, the research tax credit has been a specific French feature for almost 30 years. This tax measure enables companies to obtain partial financing for R&D work in the form of a refund or reduction in corporate income tax. In 2012, nearly 19,000 companies claimed to be using it. But in times of crisis, the bill is a heavy one for the government. In its latest report, published in June 2013, the French Court of Audit points the finger at the limitations of the public research funding system. Is the very principle of the research tax credit under threat?

Our experts review the latest news and present ideas for reforming the system.
