Microsoft v. United States: Syntec Numérique’s position
This case raises questions about sovereignty and trust in the digital economy. While access to data by the authorities may appear legitimate in the context of certain procedures, international judicial cooperation mechanisms must remain the rule, or risk seeing an increase in unilateral requests from third-party states.
Given what is at stake for the rights and freedoms of digital players and users, Syntec Numérique is following this case closely. The union reserves the right to file an Amicus Curiae before the Supreme Court, in order to underline the need for an area of sovereignty and a framework of trust for data protection in Europe.
