As part of their “rendez-vous de l’innovation”, Syntec Numérique and the Odoxa2 polling institute wanted to take stock of this major project: are the French convinced of the interest and impact of the digital apprenticeship initiative launched by the President of the Republic?

The French and “e-Education

  • 70% consider France to be “lagging behind” in this area
  • 87% believe that digital education will enable students to develop skills in demand on the job market
  • 58% think that the creation of a specific subject is necessary to effectively teach digital in schools

Digital schooling: a priority for a large majority of the population

More than two out of three French people consider France to be “lagging behind” other developed countries, a view shared by 68% of 18-24 year-olds, who are the main people affected by this digital revolution to which they attribute every virtue.

Above all, this position reflects a real awareness on the part of the population: schools today must look to the future and move into the digital age. The French identify benefits on several levels:

  • train students in the skills they need to find a job (87%)
  • develop a critical approach to online information (76%)
  • restore a taste for learning by modernizing teaching practices (65%)
  • bring schools and local players closer together (65%)
  • reduce social inequalities among students (57%)

“Early exposure to the major concepts of computer science and technology is essential. It responds to two major challenges: giving students the keys to understanding the world around them and enabling them to become players in this ecosystem, rather than mere consumers of digital technology, and also to gain access to the many future jobs for which knowledge of digital knowledge will be essential”, explains  Muriel Barnéoud, president of Syntec Numérique’s publishers’ association.
