15% growth in net jobs created by startups in France by 2022

Over 2022 as a whole, Numeum is forecasting growth of over 15% in net job creation in startups, with 35,000 new jobs created out of a sample of 9,577 startups referenced in the database (compared with 12% in 2021). It’s worth remembering that the Motherbase solution includes not only digital startups, but also those from other sectors (biology, healthcare, industry, etc.).

This dynamic is primarily driven by metropolitan areas and Île-de-France (65% of the total). By 2022, all regions in mainland France will have a positive balance in terms of job creation in startups in France.

An inflexion (-800 jobs) observed in December 2022, to be verified in 2023

After twenty consecutive months of growth (since March 2021), startups in France did not create any jobs in December 2022. With a decrease of over 800 jobs in the sample analyzed, this inflection remains contained (- 0.3%). December thus brings to a close a year of ups and downs, particularly since June, with systematic reversals in the trends observed each month. The reversals are particularly noticeable in metropolitan areas. Paris, for example, saw a decline of 400 jobs in the sample in one month, whereas the capital usually sees 2,000 to 5,000 new jobs created every month. Against this backdrop, the New Aquitaine and Hauts-de-France regions maintained their positive momentum.

GreenTech, the sector with the highest job creation in startups in France over 2022

Far ahead of the pack, GreenTech is the sector that created the most jobs (+ 4,300) in startups in 2022. FinTech (+ 3,500), HRTech and MarTech (+ 3,000) round out the other sectors that have created the most jobs in startups over the past year. It should also be noted that only the HRTech sector posted a positive balance in December, while all other sectors posted a negative balance.
