The Syntec Numérique trade association, which represents 1,800 companies in the sector, has lent its support to DigitalEurope‘s initiative on the data economy, calling onthe European Commission to put in place a framework guaranteeing the emergence of a genuinedata economyin Europe.

A letter(see below) has been sent to Commissioners Andrus Ansip (Digital Single Market), Günther Oettinger (Digital Economy) and Elżbieta Bieńkowska (Internal Market), inviting them to take a full grasp of this crucial issue for the competitiveness of European players in the sector.

Godefroy de Bentzmann, President of Syntec Numérique, explains: “The digital economy and its innovations such as Big Data are based on our ability to circulate data under guaranteed security conditions, which is why we are opposed to the principle of territorial localization of data.

The European Commission’s proposals on the data economy are expected in early 2017. Syntec Numérique remains mobilized to ensure that the framework proposed by the European institutions is the most conducive to the emergence of a competitive French and European data economy.
