European startups are driving technological development, job creation and economic growth in key sectors ranging from healthcare to the environment.
Numeum and 5 other industry associations have decided to form a coalition to call on the European institutions to recognize the key role of European policy towards startups in shaping a future of digital transformation, societal transformation, sovereignty, sustainable development and economic resilience.
Europe needs a #StartupsTakeOff. This open letter sets out our recommendations for the next European mandate, with a focus on simplification and harmonization. We aim to remove the systemic barriers faced by startups and scale-ups in Europe, fostering an ecosystem that allows digital businesses to thrive, innovate and grow without regulatory impediments.
Among our proposals:
- The establishment of a European Commissioner for Startups, tasked with advancing a coherent startup policy and acting as a central point of contact within the European institutions.
- Harmonizing the definition of startups across the EU to establish a common database.
- A strong emphasis on promoting the transfer of research results into marketable applications.
- The creation of a European legal framework for small businesses to facilitate smooth access to the internal market.
