Health data: Syntec Numérique broadens its scope of action

This working group on medico-administrative databases is chaired byAlexandre Vainchtock (HEVA),within the health data group chaired by Dr.Christophe Richard (ATOS). It brings together Syntec Numérique’s current members – data hosts, application publishers, consultancies and companies specializing in machine learning. Mutual insurance companies and healthcare establishments are also involved.

The creation of this working group comes at a time when the Institut national des données de santé (INDS) is being set up to act as a one-stop shop for requests for access to the Système national des données de santé (SNDS) for the purpose of carrying out a study, research or evaluation of public interest.

The 2016 French Health Act stipulates that companies producing health products and health insurers must either use an independent consultancy or research organization to gain access to the SNDS, or demonstrate that the access procedures will in no way enable the SNDS to be used for the prohibited purposes identified in the law.

According to Alexandre Vainchtock, “the ambition of this new working group is to federate the players in the medico-administrative database sector, and to position Syntec Numérique as a force to be reckoned with by the INDS, by providing expertise and independence – essential to the use of these databases as a ‘trusted third party’“.

Syntec Numérique is already taking part in government initiatives on healthcare data, from the Open Data work led by the French Ministry of Health, to the “Facilitating access to data” and “Healthcare data analysis sector” working groups of the Comité Stratégique de Filière (CSF), and the work underway at SGMAP.
