The announcement was made this morning at the Digital and the Environment symposium, organized jointly by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, and the Secretariat of State for Digital Transition and Electronic Communications.

While digital technology represents a major opportunity for ecological transition, thanks in particular to the innovative solutions developed to help industries and regions on their environmental trajectory, its impact on the planet is today indisputable: digital products and services account for around 3% of greenhouse gas emissions.

In this context, reducing the environmental impact of digital technology must mobilize the entire ecosystem. In addition to companies, which must implement a responsible strategy, the educational sector has a major role to play in ensuring that the new generation of digital professionals is capable of developing low-carbon, sustainable technological products and services.

That’s why, at the instigation of the Conseil National du Numérique, Syntec Numérique and its network of partners(Alliance GreenIT, Fing, GreenIT.fr, Institut Numérique Responsable, The Shift Project, Cigref, Cinov Numérique, Société Informatique de France, Systematic and Talents du Numérique) have joined forces to federate the ecosystem and generate greater impact together.

The mission of the Planet Tech’Care platform is to create a network of shared interests around digital and the environment, and to provide committed players (companies or training providers) with the means to reduce their digital environmental footprint. It will also enable educational players and companies in the sector who offer training courses to their employees to integrate responsible digital technology into their educational programs.

100 committed players (companies and training providers) have already joined us: by signing the Planet Tech’Care manifesto, they will have free access to a support program comprising several workshops designed by digital and environmental experts, partners in the initiative. The platform will also give them access to a network of professionals, service and solution providers specialized in supporting companies on their responsible path.

Syntec Numérique and its partners will draw up an assessment of the platform at the start of the 2021 academic year, in order to highlight the progress made by signatories and, thanks to their feedback, to involve even more players in this dynamic.

“The challenge of such a platform is to create a dynamic around players committed to eco-responsible digital, to federate expertise to move from commitment to action, and finally to create common ground to scale up. I would like to congratulate the 100 players who have already enthusiastically signed up to our manifesto, and to thank the ten partners who are mobilizing to contribute their expertise.”
