The new Members of the European Parliament have been elected.
- Sharp rise in participation
Turnout was 50.97% in the European Union and 50.12% in France (compared with 42.43% in 2014).
- Strong gains by environmental parties
Ecological parties have made strong gains, with 20.7% in Germany (Grüne), 13.4% in France (EELV) and 15% in Finland (Green League).
- The rise of eurosceptic parties
Eurosceptic parties are also on the rise, including 23.4% in France (RN), 33.6% in Italy (La Ligue) and 31.7% in the UK (Brexit Party).
