Two areas have been identified, namely the free circulation of data and preparations for the entry into force of the European regulation on personal data.

With the European Commission due to announce its proposals on the free flow of data by the end of 2016/early 2017, it is essential that states and stakeholders support the need for action to remove barriers to data flows. This is also a key issue for current and future international trade agreement negotiations.

What’s more, while the G29 guidelines are expected by December-January next year, national players are beginning to prepare for the new regulation’s entry into force in May 2018, with the CNIL currently reflecting on the issue and the launch of a parliamentary mission to overhaul the current legislative framework. Companies will have to integrate the new provisions and adapt their organization accordingly – with impacts such as the appointment of a data protection delegate, the implementation of impact analyses or certification procedures.
