The revised Syntec index incorporates methodological changes made following an external audit commissioned by the Syntec Federation into the conditions under which the Syntec index is produced. The conclusions of this audit – observed biases and proposed methodological corrections – were presented to INSEE.
INSEE’s recommendations have helped to reinforce and complete the corrections to be made.

This technical notice helps users interpret a revised version of the Syntec index, which can feature in contractual price-adjustment clauses. Changes to a statistical series may affect the mechanics of a calculation even when the parties’ commercial intent remains unchanged.
A responsible explanation should separate the purpose of indexation from its application: determine the relevant index, identify the periods, read the contract, verify published values and calculate the adjustment in accordance with the agreed formula.
