Colloque | Artificial intelligence and intellectual property: how to reconcile innovation and creation?
Symposium – Tuesday, January 30, 2024, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event will take place exclusively in person, and will be followed by a cocktail reception.
At a time when the European Union is finalizing its AI Act, the explosion in the use of generative artificial intelligence has put the protection of creation and intellectual property back at the heart of the debate.
What reality lies behind the concepts of “input” and “output”? The Directive on copyright in the digital single market, transposed in France in 2021, has modified our law to take account of technological developments: what initial assessment can be made of this text in the light of the emergence of generative AI?
Beyond regulation, how do the creative professions interact with artificial intelligence? Can AI also be a source of creativity?
Numeum invites you to join us for an insightful event combining legal and economic expertise, as well as testimonials from the ecosystem, to fuel this vital debate for both tech and the cultural and creative industries.
Program:
Round Table 1 “Input”: what status and what protection for content used for learning purposes by AI systems?
What data is used to train foundation models? How is the right of opposition (“opt-out”) open to rights holders since the DAMUN directive being used? More broadly, how does our law frame the use of content to train generative AI?
Keynote Europe Live from Brussels: how does the future AI Act address the intellectual property challenges of AI?
Round Table 2 “The output: towards artificial intelligence that creates?
Under what conditions can content generated by artificial intelligence qualify as a work? Is intellectual property law relevant in determining the status of such content? How do players in the ecosystem – both solution providers and users – approach this question?
Round Table 3 Beyond regulation: do AI and culture mix?
At a time when the debate seems reduced to a “threat vs. opportunity” opposition, the reality of interactions between AI and the creative professions appears more nuanced: how do the cultural professions deal with artificial intelligence on a day-to-day basis? How can AI be placed at the service of creation?
