Over the past ten years, startups have been the focus of numerous policies to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth, particularly in terms of international support measures. Nevertheless, internationalization remains a challenge for French startups, and for some small and medium-sized digital companies, particularly in terms of HR.

Key figures to remember:

  • 34,000: Number of digital start-ups, VSEs and SMEs in 2023 ;
  • 325,700: Number of jobs in digital start-ups, VSEs and SMEs in 2023;
  • 35,500: Number of jobs created by digital start-ups, VSEs and SMEs abroad in 2023 ;
  • 55,500: Number of jobs in international digital start-ups, VSEs and SMEs in 2028.

Against this backdrop, Numeum contributed to a study carried out by the Observatoire des métiers du numérique, de l’ingénierie, du conseil et de l’évènement (OPIIEC):

  • Identify the scope of international development for digital startups, VSEs and SMEs;
  • Take stock of the situation and prospects for job creation linked to the international development of the digital industry;
  • Identify the obstacles and motivations to international development for companies in the digital sector;
  • Measure the impact of international development on jobs and skills in the Digital sector;
  • Draw up recommendations to support the international development of digital companies. In this respect, the study sets out 11 recommendations focusing on 4 key issues:
    • Continue efforts to adapt the international development support ecosystem;

    • Marginally adapt the training offer;

    • Developing dual skills in the digital sector;

    • Sharing experiences, playing “collective” within digital companies.
