The latest Syntec Numérique BVA barometer takes the pulse of the relationship between the French and the Cloud, their knowledge and use of it. Cloud computing seems to be the ideal tool for sharing the same content with friends and family, from any location and on several devices, and represents a veritable revolution in digital uses, both professional and personal. However, it still raises a few questions among the French.

21% of the French population opt for the Cloud

  • One French person in fifty usesthe Cloud to store or share digital documents over the Internet: photos, videos, diaries or documents are all content they want to keep.
  • The advantages identified by the French:
  • 56%: access to content from anywhere at any time
  • 42%: a guarantee of security if the hard drive stops working
  • 40%: more storage than a computer or external hard drive
  • 40%: data visualization on all screens

Irrespective of the learning curve for new technologies, there are many factors that can influence the way the French embrace the Cloud. Among them, the barometer naturally highlights the key words that the French associate with the Cloud: nomadism, accessibility, storage, sharing and security.

Education, a key driver of Cloud adoption

  • 50%ofFrench people feel that their data is poorly protected in the cloud, a result essentially linked to a certain lack of understanding of this new environment.
  • The French need to be reassured about the confidentiality of their data: an educational effort is needed to continue converting them to the Cloud, not only on the benefits, but also on the security provided. Convinced of the usefulness of this new practice, the French want to know that their private data is protected on all their terminals – computer, tablet or smartphone. Overcoming this fear will be a powerful lever in guiding the French towards the Cloud.

“Our barometer shows that Cloud Computing is increasingly present in French people’s daily lives. Lohen asked about their personal use of the Cloud to store or share digital documents, we found that one in five already uses it. This penetration rate is very promising for such a recent innovation: it can only increase. . Our role is to support them in these new uses which, we are convinced, are one of the key elements in the digital shift that France has taken “.
