In this new study on frugal AI andAI serving the ecological transition, based on testimonials from 72 professionals from 45 different organizations, we share with you a representative snapshot of where companies in France stand, and put forward a whole series of recommendations for seizing these challenges as quickly as possible.

One of these recommendations is the development and adoption of a culture of eco-design and eco-consumption:

  • Strategic debate: elevate the discussion on ecology and AI to management level and make it a pillar of corporate strategy.

  • Training and awareness: set up regular training courses for managers and employees on the environmental and economic benefits of Green AI and AI for Green, highlighting successful use cases and industry best practices.

  • Ecodesign: integrating ecodesign into the life cycle of all the company’s products and services.

  • Eco-consumption :

    • Encourage AI use that asks “do I really need it?” before launching new projects.

    • Educate and equip consumers and end-users to understand their environmental impact when using AI.

    • Promote the concept of “less but better” technology use among users.

    • Encourage the development and adoption of AI technologies that maximize benefits while minimizing energy consumption and waste.

    • Implement impact assessment methodologies: adopt tools and methodologies to assess the environmental impact of AI projects right from the design stage. Use these assessments to guide decision-making.

    • Cross-functional collaboration: encourage collaboration between development teams, data teams, business units and CSR departments to adopt a holistic approach to eco-design.

    • Mobilizing innovation departments: actively involve innovation departments and give them the tools they need to manage change.

    • Engaging all talents: involving all employees in the ecological and technological transition for collective and meaningful action.

    • Action: launch concrete green initiatives and measure their impact for a sustainable future.
