Syntec Numérique unveils the first edition of its ranking of French software publishers in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region
For the first time, Syntec Numérique, EY and Medinsoft have joined forces to produce a version of the Top 250, the panorama of French software publishers, for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Based on a sample of 17 companies, this study highlights the economic performance of local software publishers.
Key figures for regional software publishers.
- Sustained, dynamic regional growth
In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, publishers have recorded a fine increase in sales since 2014: +14.8% over 2 years, +3.9% between 2015 and 2016.
2014 : 93,7 M€
2015 : 103,6 M€
2016 : 107,6 M€
At national level: the sector’s sales jumped by 30% between 2014 and 2016, and by 12% last year alone. In 2016, the 358 French publishers on the panel recorded total revenues of €13.5 billion.
- Software as a Service, a model that appeals to local publishers
19%of the sales of publishing houses in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region are generated by SaaS / Internet services.
At national level: the share of sales generated by SaaS/Internet services reached 32% of total sales for the panel’s publishers in 2016, 7 points higher than in 2015. French publishers are choosing to focus on this activity, and this trend is particularly marked for publishers who have recently started their business.
- A regional industry that creates jobs
The regional workforce is on the rise, with 203 new employees in 2016. Optimistically, 79% of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur publishers plan to recruit in 2017. However, in line with the French digital sector as a whole, 93% are currently experiencing recruitment difficulties.
Nationwide: 83% of publishers reported difficulties in recruiting in 2016.
- Local publishers banking on innovation
R&D is more than ever at the heart of the development strategy of local software publishers: 37% of the workforce of software publishers in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is dedicated to innovation.
At national level: in 2016, all the panel’s publishers devoted 16% of their sales to this sector.
“Like the dynamic French software industry at national level, this first panorama of the PACA region reveals a healthy regional sector, despite slightly slower growth in 2016. The industry is relying on similar growth drivers, such as SaaS and innovation. On the other hand, local software publishers are encountering even greater difficulties than at national level when it comes to recruitment: 93% say they are currently struggling to recruit profiles and skills that match their needs and their desire to pursue their development”, comments Olivier Cazzulo, Regional Delegate for Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur at Syntec Numérique.
