What you need to know:
Women are under-represented in the digital sector
- The proportion of women is 27.9% in the digital sector, compared with 47.6% in the economy as a whole (Source: Quatrat Etudes HR Observatory).
- 85% of startups were founded by a 100% male team (Source Sista).
Despite a smaller presence, there is relative equality in working conditions
- According to the Observatoire des inégalités, women earn on average 18.5% less than men, while the gap between men and women in the digital sector is 7.7% less for women.
- Digital companies have a strong awareness of the issues surrounding corporate social responsibility, and give the company an important role in these matters, which has consequences in terms of salary alignment and recruitment.
The under-representation of women in the digital economy and its consequences are the result of many factors.
Action is needed from elementary school onwards, where the notion of gender is less deeply rooted, and throughout continuing education.
In 2018, Syntec Numérique, in partnership with Talents du Numérique, Cigref, Social Builder, AFMD and the Conférence des grandes Ecoles, created the Femmes @ Numérique foundation. Supported by the Government and placed under the aegis of the Fondation de France, the foundation aims to federate ecosystem initiatives to “scale up”.
Moreover, since 2011, Syntec Numérique has placed gender issues at the heart of its missions, by creating the Femmes du Numérique program, with the aim of publicizing and promoting the attractiveness of digital professions to women, and encouraging and supporting women in their transition to digital professions.
