After a year of doubt, 2013 ended on a positive note for software publishers. This momentum of optimism seems to be continuing in the early months of 2014. On all fronts, the indicators tracked by the quarterly Syntec Numérique – BVA barometer remain at a high level: economic confidence, targets achieved, dynamic hiring and continued good levels of investment.

  • 70%of publishers believe they are on or ahead of target

The first quarter of the year seems to have lived up to its promise, with only a 20-point difference between publishers who have achieved their targets, and those who have yet to do so. This is one of the best figures ever observed in this barometer.

  • 63% are confident about the future

The sector’s economic confidence rating remains satisfactory. It remains above the 60% mark, in the upper range of values observed for this indicator since 2011.

  • 61%of publishers plan to hire

While publishers previously seemed to be struggling to turn their investments into recruitment, 61% are now ready to take up this challenge in 2014, compared with 51% in December 2013.

  • 69%plan to invest in new projects over the next three months

This good news on the employment front goes hand in hand with a willingness to invest on the part of publishers, which remains at a good level, despite a slight downturn of 5 points.

“The very good news comes above all from employment and confidence in the future – we’ve rarely reached these levels since July 2011! A positive vision of the future has always been the strength of software, which is at the heart of all innovations, including the imminent one around connected objects1. This latest wave of the barometer once again confirms this all-round dynamism. The last thing we need is for this excellent start to the year to run out of steam, contaminated by the prevailing gloom!  concludes Bruno Vanryb, President of Syntec Numérique’s Collège Editeurs.
