The ELLES digital comic book introduces readers to women working in technology through illustrated portraits. Released as an accessible discovery resource, it was intended to show that digital careers are varied and that women belong throughout the sector.

Visual storytelling can reach young audiences who might not read a conventional careers guide. The original publication cited participation figures from its own period; those figures should remain dated rather than presented as current measures of the gender balance in digital occupations.

Diversity matters for both fairness and the quality of digital products and services. Teams that understand different lived experiences are better placed to notice accessibility problems and question assumptions about users. Representation should be considered at multiple stages, from education and recruitment to retention and leadership. Sustained improvement calls for transparent criteria, meaningful feedback and management responsibility. Historical campaigns and awards are useful examples of mobilisation, but no single initiative can substitute for long-term change.
