The three professional chambers will be meeting decision-makers and MEPs as the European Commission draws up its proposals for the Single Digital Market, to be published in the autumn.

Representing 4,500 digital companies in Europe’s strongest economies, techUK, Syntec Numérique and Bitkom welcome Europe’s commitment to the creation of a single digital market, as a means of modernizing the European economy.

Whether in Germany, France or the UK, digital companies are driving innovation, improving business productivity and contributing to the economic and social well-being of European consumers and citizens. The Digital Single Market is an opportunity to accelerate this process and create growth and jobs for the whole of Europe.

The eight principles are:

  • Open up to change
  • Going international
  • Making innovation easy for businesses
  • Making the world simpler, not more complicated
  • Making room for innovation to overcome obstacles
  • Use the right tools for the job
  • Beware of unforeseen consequences
  • Evolve at the right pace

According to TechUK Director Julian David, “The European Digital Single Market is at the heart of European competitiveness efforts. A recent study revealed that its implementation could create 3.8 million jobs across Europe1. That’s why it’s crucial to get this project right.

For Dr. Bernhard Rohleder, Director of Bitkom The fact that our three organizations have agreed on these principles is proof of the interest and ambition of digital companies in Europe. There is real technological optimism, and it is by expanding the market, with fewer trade barriers, that we will help European companies to grow. The challenge is to lay the foundations for success.

According to Laurent Baudart, General Delegate of Syntec Numérique, “These eight principles must be the compass for improving our public policies for decision-makers and politicians. Properly applied, these principles will help all stakeholders to make the Digital Single Market a success”.
